Matteo's Cycling Safety Riding workshops
I offer Safe Riding workshops to all ages, they are typically half of the session going over strategy, road laws and best practice verbally. Followed by some cycling skill practice in an empty paved space, followed by a ride that is normally the individuals route to school or work or just a big loop if a small group.
Examples of content covered
- Proper Helmet fit
-How to safety check a bike
-Top Safety gear for cyclist and bicycle
- Proper turning signals
-Turning signal technique and timing
-Road positioning when turning or not and its importance for safety in various traffic levels/speeds/road sizes
.-Common Cycling road hazards and how to navigate them (ex. road snakes, train/streetcar tracks, cracks in road, puddles, pot holes, sand, stones etc)
- importance of straight line riding -Intersection Navigation-Lane changing-Confidence and how it will save your life
During the ride I watch how cyclists position themselves on the road and thus communicate to the road users around them and generally the biggest thing for me outside of communication of intent is talking about taking up space on the road sufficient enough so that the cyclist is given proper space.
